Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LEWA) is a not-for-profit organization that works as a catalyst for the conservation of wildlife and its habitat. LWC does this through the protection and management of species, the initiation and support of community conservation and development programmes, and the education of neighboring areas on wildlife value. JOB PURPOSE:

Working closely with the various LWC Heads of Department, this position will work to support a culture and practice of reliable planning, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and reporting to track LWC impact. This includes developing, updating and coordinating monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities and events, building the capacity of LWC staff, and promoting MEAL knowledge transfer internally and externally. The coordinator will work with LWC Grants and Reporting Officer to deliver on impact and reporting needs, while institutionalizing organizational M&E.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Work with LWC identified partners to develop an M&E system.
    1. Augment the overall M&E framework.
    2. Participate in the process of identifying the key performance questions and parameters for monitoring project performance and comparing it to targets. Design the format for such performance reports.
    3. Review the quality of existing social and economic and ecological and biodiversity data, the methods of collecting it and the degree to which it will provide good baseline statistics for impact evaluation.
  • Supervise regular data collection within LWC programmatic departments and ensure for data integrity through verifications and validations.
  • Conduct regular socio-economic and KAP surveys to evaluate and report on LWC impact.
  • Record, manage and preserve monitoring and evaluation data in a safe and accessible platform (LWC uses Salesforce as its data storage, management and reporting platform).
  • Analyze and discuss key findings based on regular monitoring data.
  • Ensure that implementation of MEALS adheres to SOP’s developed by LWC.
  • Guide the regular sharing of the outputs of M&E findings with project staff, implementing partners and primary stakeholders.
  • Lead in the development of bi-annual and annual organizational reports.
  • Manage donor relationships and reporting together with relationship managers.
  • Check that monitoring data are discussed in the appropriate forum and in a timely fashion in terms of implications for future action. If necessary, create such discussion forums to fill any gaps.


Capacity Building and Programmatic Support


  • Provide technical support on M&E and evidence-based recommendations to the relevant Heads of Departments and Fundraising teams.
  • Work with program staff to ensure M&E tools and processes are understood and used. Build institutional capacity on MEALS.
  • Identify opportunities to provide and present M&E findings and data to colleagues to contribute to decision-making and strategic planning processes as appropriate.
  • Undertake regular visits to the field to support      implementation of M&E and to identify where adaptations might be      needed.
  • Participate actively in program planning process and budgeting of the program quality and fundraising unit
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.


QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative discipline (preferably in Social Science, Economics, or Statistics)
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in the field of Monitoring and Evaluation.


COMPETENCY, TECHNICAL SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE


  • Broad experience in the design and implementation of capacity building activities in M&E.
  • High level of proficiency in Windows Excel and/or Statistical Software (SPSS, STATA, R). Knowledge of GIS and survey tools is an advantage.
  • Advanced skills in data analysis, presentation and report writing.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Sharp analytical skills combined with a proactive, energetic approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of major quantitative & qualitative monitoring methodologies and proven ability to design monitoring instrumentation tools.
  • Willingness to participate in field activities/surveys and travel to communities within the LWC landscape.
